For three South Dakota athletes supported by Vista Care, the journey to the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games represents much more than competition. It is the result of years of dedication, hard work, and the support of family, friends, coaches, teammates, and their communities.
This June, athletes from across the country will gather in Minnesota for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, one of the nation's largest celebrations of ability and inclusion. More than 3,000 athletes from all 50 states will compete in Olympic-style sports while showcasing the power of determination, teamwork, and perseverance.
Among those athletes will be three remarkable individuals supported by Vista Care: Nate, Jaren, and Addison. While each athlete's journey is unique, they share a common excitement about the opportunity ahead.
For Nate, competing at the USA Games is a chance to travel, compete, and spend time with his brother while continuing a lifelong passion for sports. Over the years, he has participated in basketball, soccer, bowling, softball, track and field, and bocce, building friendships and confidence along the way.
Jaren is looking forward to reconnecting with friends and meeting athletes from around the country. Through Special Olympics, he has gained valuable leadership experiences, including participation in the Torch Run and attending a national conference. Those opportunities have helped him grow both on and off the field.
For Addison, the excitement centers around competing alongside her teammates, traveling to a new place, and experiencing the Opening Ceremony. As a swimmer, she will compete in multiple events while representing South Dakota on the national stage.
Beyond competition, all three athletes agree that Special Olympics is about much more than sports. It is about friendship, teamwork, personal growth, and being part of something bigger than themselves.
Their journeys have been supported by strong networks of family members, coaches, teammates, and organizations that believe in their potential. Vista Care has been proud to play a role in helping them pursue their goals, participate in activities they enjoy, and prepare for this exciting opportunity.
As they prepare for the USA Games, Nate, Jaren, and Addison hope others see the abilities behind the accomplishments. They want people to understand that everyone deserves respect, dignity, and the opportunity to pursue their goals. They hope their experiences encourage others to recognize that individuals with disabilities can achieve incredible things when they are given the support and opportunities to succeed.
When the athletes arrive in Minnesota, they'll be competing for South Dakota, but they'll also be representing perseverance, inclusion, and the power of community.
Vista Care is proud to support Nate, Jaren, and Addison as they take this exciting next step. We wish them the very best as they compete, make memories, and inspire others at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games.
Good luck, Nate, Jaren, and Addison! We'll be cheering you on every step of the way.
